Sony Broadcast: Sony IMX MPEG II Digital VTRs & Players ![]() MPEG II has become increasingly accepted as a world-wide standard for video storage, for uplink for terrestrial broadcast, and for digital transmission. While Betacam SX represents a robust MPEG II video news mastering format due to an MPEG-based Sony proprietary compression of about 9:1, and an extremely economical (for transmission and faster than real time data transfer) bit rate native recording capability of 18 Mb/s, Sony's 8-Bit IMX MPEG II format provides for selectable Mastering with 30 (6:1 compression), 40 (4:1 compression), or 50 (3.3:1 compression) Mb/s I-frame "contribution quality" editing while retaining the capability to input/output (device dependant) native MPEG II through SDTI-CP for compatible agent/broker file exchange with Sony's MAV server products and such third party products as Grass Valley Group MPEG Profile XP Series Servers (with corresponding GVG SDTI-CP option). IMX VTRs/Multi-format Players: 50 Mb/sec MPEG II Based Active Picture Data Rate Recording Level

Notes: MPEG IMX Studio Editing Recorder -for 525/625 standard definition live television reality programs (trucks and stage recording), full aperture video post production and editing (512 active lines in 525 format, 608 active lines in 625 format), compressed digital content archiving, and contribution level MPEG-2 studio profile digital television mastering. This VTR supports the recommended 50Mb/s studio profile MPEG-2 recording for contribution level ATSC digital television storage, allows for vertical interval support with production aperture, and is dual standard 525/59.94 and 625/50 (pull down is not supported). This VTR offers the studio profile MPEG-2 4:2:2 Profile @ ML recording in a Sony IMX production format, which is I frame (only), 8-bit intra-frame compressed component digital recording at 50Mbps (designated the SMPTE D-10 format). The VTR is a compact 4 RU in height. It comes equipped with a an SDI I/O, SDTI-CO I/O, Analog Component I/O, Analog Composite I/O, 4-ch Analog Audio balanced (XLR) I/O, 2-ch Analog Audio Monitor out, and AES/EBU 8-ch (75 Ohm BNC x 4) audio input and output. This unit can play back Betacam/SP 525/625, Betacam SX 525/625, MPEG IMX 525/625, and Digital Betacam 525/625 tapes. It can convert playback accordingly to 30, 40, or 50 Mbps MPEG-2 4:2:2 Profile @ ML with built-in SDTI-CP interface (standard feature). The SDTI-CP interface also provides for 30, 40, or 50 Mbps MPEG-2 4:2:2 Profile @ ML input. The unit features pre-read IMX recording, dynamic motion control, and records 8 Audio channels at 16-bits per channel (48KHz sample rate) or 4 Audio channels at 24-bits per channel (48 KHz sample rate). All IMX audio channels can be independently edited in either mode. This unit can also transfer IMX D-10 stream in or out at 2x real time via SDTI-CP (standard feature), and has Metadata IMX (and UMID) handling with a capacity of 255 bytes/frame.
