Accor to equip hotels with LG Electronics screens
06/23/2005 PARIS (Reuters) - Europe's biggest hotel group Accor confirmed on Thursday it had signed an exclusive agreement with LG Electronics to equip its hotels with flat screen TVs from the South Korean electronics maker. Accord did not give financial details for the deal, which is estimated to be worth up to 150 million euros ($182.8 million), according to a source close to the matter. However, it said the project represented a potential market of 260,000 TV sets which it said was equal to more than half of France's entire flat-screen TV market. "Travelers no longer choose their hotel solely on status," Accor Chairman Jean-Marc Espalioux said in a statement. "They also take into account the conditions of their stay." Accor has been equipping its hotels with communication technology in recent years, signing a deal with France Telecom's mobile phone operator Orange for digital wireless Internet, or Wi-Fi, connections. LG Electronics, which competes with Samsung Electronics, is present in the television, mobile phone and home equipment sectors. Accor shares closed broadly unchanged on Thursday, down 0.05 percent at 39.34 euros ($1=.8206 Euro). News Archive |
